Car crime will effect most of us during our lifetime of driving. Follow these tips to try and reduce the risk that you have to make a claim on your insurance.

Here are several tips to help beat car thieves:
- In summer, make sure the doors of your vehicle are locked and the windows shut, no matter how hot the weather.
- When choosing town centre parking places, park your car where there are people moving about.
- If parking at night, try to park your vehicle in a well-lit area.
- Leave no valuables in your car at all. You are probably only insured for £100 of them and your excess is likely to be around the same amount. If a thief smashes a side window attempting to get valuables, often it is easier just to make a glass claim. Normally claims for just glass damage do not effect your no claims bonus.
- Make sure you do not leave a jacket behind when you leave the vehicle. It may to you to be of very little value, but a thief may think it has been left to hide a laptop.
- If you have a removable music system, take it with you.
- Do not leave your car keys on a table in your hall. There is a form of theft involving fishing rod that could catch you out!
