As a younger driver, what size engine should I go for?
The size of engine of the vehicle you drive has a big impact on the insurance premium you pay.
If you are considering what engine size you should go for as a young driver particularly as a 17 year old driver, then the rule is the smaller the better.
Even small differences in the engine capacity can make a substantial difference to your premium.
If you are looking at several cars then it is better to get an insurance quote on all of them. The reason for this is that even if a car you are looking at is only slightly different from a model you have had a quote on, there is no guarantee the other car will be similar.
For example if you get a quote of £750 on a 1.1 litre Renault Clio and then go and but the 1.4 version, the difference in premium could be dramatic. Never buy a car without firstly having a confirmed quote on the exact specification of the car.
