What is a total loss?
A total loss is when you're the damage to your car makes it uneconomical to repair. Although there is set point at which this has to imposed, generally once the damage to the vehicle is at 70% of the vehicle value, the car may be written off.
The car is normally inspected by a motor engineer following an accident and it is the engineers assessment as to whether to proceed with insurance repairs.
