What is protected NCB?
If you have maximum no claims bonus, you can pay an additional premium to protect it. This means that your NCB is not stepped back in the event of a claim. This benefit is variable but only applies to your existing insurer, and is usually available only when maximum NCB has been accrued.
This means you should bear in mind that;
- Only your current insurer is obliged to protect your no claims bonus.
- There is normally a limit on how many claims you can make before your no claims bonus is affected. To see the effect of claims on your no claims bonus use this link.
- Protecting your no claims bonus is not a guarantee that your premium will remain the same. You are only protecting the discount you get. In fact following a fault claim it is usual for your insurance to increase in premium even if you have a protected no claims bonus. This is because the base rate on which your premium is calculated will rise.
