Short Period Disqualifications (Bans)
17to40 specialises in car insurance for drivers between the ages of 17 and 40. We will search a panel of insurers on your behalf and present you with their cheapest car insurance quote.
Short period disqualifications can be applied by magistrates where they see fit, for some of the minor offences where there are exceptional and serious breaches of a minor offence. The most common example is speeding. This normally incurs a penalty points allocation of 4 points on your licence and a fixed fine of £60.
However if you speed excessively, the police may not offer a fixed penalty fine and a magistrate may impose a small period ban of up to 56 days.
Many insurance companies will treat this ban as a serious load on your isnurance premiums. Young drivers may then find that they have to retake their test under the provisions of the road traffic new driver rules.
You must not drive during the short-term disqualification period but can resume driving once the period of disqualification is over ie your licence will become valid on the day after the disqualification. You do not need to renew your licence when the short period disqualification ends.
