DVLA could enforce car insurance
The DVLA could ensure that car insurance fraud is properly tackled if the government introduced new legislation, the insurance industry has claimed.
The Association of British Insurers (ABI) wants the government to make it an offence to own an uninsured vehicle.
At the present time, uninsured drivers are only likely to be prosecuted if they are caught red-handed.
"Honest motorists will benefit from introducing this new offence," said the ABI's Nick Starling.
"This is why we urge the Government to introduce the necessary legislation as soon as possible and to ensure that the DVLA have the necessary funding to enforce this new offence as soon as legislation is secured."
