Database targets uninsured young drivers
Experts are hoping that a new database of car insurance holders will enable the police to keep better tabs on young drivers who are ignoring the issue.
The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has commented on the new Motor Insurance Database (MDI), which it says will enable quicker processing of information in such cases and allow them to regulate the market much better.
It hopes that the issue will have a major impact on the problem of uninsured drivers - particularly among youths.
ABI's Justin Jacobs explained: "We believe this new requirement will help deliver Professor Greenaway's vision of driving the uninsured from our roads."
"We now call for the government to create the new offence of keeping a vehicle on-the-road without insurance to make best use of the MID in bringing down uninsured driving."
