Learner drivers fight speed bumps
Learner drivers in Edinburgh could find themselves having to deal with "boneshaking" speed bumps.
The new anti-speed measures are part of the city council's attempts to reduce road accidents in the area but driving instructors are concerned that it could lead to problems for many learner drivers, reports the Scotsman.
The "square cushions" have been installed on along Duddingston Road, which is also a driving test route and this has caused concern from the Edinburgh and Lothian Driving Instructors' Association.
"These road humps are a nightmare. It makes going along Duddingston Road like riding a horse - up and down all the time," said the association's spokesman, Mansour Marouf.
"There are so many of them, and they are far too high. My pupils have to really slow down and go over them in first gear. There have not been any accidents in this area before and this is a complete waste of money," he added.
Each of the speed bumps have cost £1,500 to install and the council is planning to introduce them to a number of other areas of the city in order to enforce a 20mph in residential areas.
