One in ten hit by drivers with no car insurance
One in ten drivers have been involved in an accident with an uninsured driver, according to research.
A study by the RAC and Max Power showed that ten per cent of drivers had had first hand experience of the damage uninsured drivers can cause.
The survey found that up to a third of young people had driven a car without insurance, while 13 per cent regarded it as a victimless crime.
However, the Motor Insurance Bureau paid out £500 million to the victims of uninsured motorists last year.
This is paid out of the premiums of honest motorists. Approximately five per cent of all motorists now drive uninsured which adds £30 to £60 to the premiums of other motorists, the survey revealed.
