Young drivers unaware of road rules
A leading car insurance firm has found that many young drivers and other motorists in the UK are not aware of the rules that apply when on the road.
Privilege Insurance says that the problem is such that as many as a third of drivers would not pass their driving test again if they had to re-take it.
Issues such as stopping distances, seat belts and lighting were all problematic for those responding to the survey.
Amazingly, one in four drivers thought that they could even overtake on the inside lane of a motorway
Privilege managing director Ian Parker said: "As the driving test celebrates its 70th anniversary this month, we wanted to see exactly how much today's drivers know about the rules of the road. And the findings are somewhat worrying."
He cautioned both young drivers and old that an understanding of the Highway Code was "essential knowledge".
